About the site
This site offers some writings of various IT (or, using more fashionable term, ICT) related topics for anyone to read. The writings are meant to tell about the areas of my expertise and experience, in such manner that you can use them as guidance for your own tasks.
Use the categories and tags in the left navigation to find articles in your specific area of interest. The initiative for these articles is usually that I have tried done something that I have not found enough guidance and best practices in the internet. Thus I’ve decided to share my knowledge and experiences.
Although I’m using a blogging software to manage the content of the site, I don’t consider this site a blog as such. I’m not intending to add content in a regular fashion, nor to write articles you just read once. As you might notice, I consider the site content as ‘articles’ that help you in various tasks, and I expect people to return to the same article again later, if they need to do the same task again.
The punch line is, this site is to provide useful writings, not entertainment. And the priority is on quality rather than quantity.
The site is also an experiment, where I’m learning the different aspects of web as a business.
About the author
My name is Jouko Markkanen, and I’m the author for the articles on this site. This site does not tell about me, and I will not tell my life story here. If you are wondering, what gives me the authority to write about these subjects, my professional expertise and experience comes from the areas of IT (have worked and currently work as an IT Manager), Networks (was once a Network Consultant), Information Security (was also a Security Consultant, specialized in Identity and Access Management), Web stuff from the era when web sites were carved in stone (was even a Web Designer back then).
Non-IT related articles (at least when they will be published) are based on my hobbies, and might sometimes be in Finnish (as that’s my native language).
The techical implementation of the site
The content of this site is managed using WordPress, running on my home server. The basic site design dates from long before I had learned about WordPress (perhaps before it even existed), the design was just made into a WordPress theme, and extended for the features provided by WordPress (well, maybe ‘just’ is an understatement, as maybe about a fifth of the current design was on the original site).
The design (as well technical as visual) is intended to be of a no-nonsense style. There’s not many fancy WP plugins in use, those that are, are written by myself or heavily modified for a specific purpose.
